The Easter break in Spring Semester is set to be moved forward to next week and last for four weeks, it has been announced.

It comes in light of the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic, which saw all face-to-face teaching at the University of Sheffield suspended at the start of this week. Following meetings of the University Senate and University Council yesterday (Wednesday), the change to semester dates has been approved, and term will now take a break from Friday 20 March.

Students will return to university, for the second half of the semester, on Monday 20 April.

Students’ Union President Jake Verity said of the decision: “We think it is imperative that the University is given adequate time to mitigate and prepare teaching that will be conducted online.

“We are very appreciative that there is a significant amount of other work for the University to do particularly with regards to deadlines, assessment and student wellbeing.

“For this to be done properly for the benefit of our students, moving into vacation early means this can be done both well and thoroughly.”

More to follow.
