Lily Grimshaw

I’m running to be your next Women’s Officer because I am a dedicated and experienced individual who wants to address fundamental issues within the SU and improve YOUR student experience.

My first policy is a ‘Body Neutrality’ Campaign. In 2018, over 1.25 million people were diagnosed with an eating disorder, with 25% of these identifying as male. I want to tackle the stigma surrounding body-image issues, equipping students with the tools needed to form better relationships with their bodies and helping them to improve their general well-being.

Secondly, as BME, disabled, LGBTQ+ and self-identifying women all have different experiences, needs and interests, I want to ensure that intersectionality remains at the centre of SU policy formation and campaigns.

My third policy is the creation of a student-led, bi-annual exhibition and journal which would consist of pieces of work from different departments and liberation groups. By showcasing the diverse array of talent and achievement from our female students and staff at Sheffield we can celebrate individual success and inspire others to work towards their goals.

Finally, I want to reshape the current approach to sexual consent by introducing a series of changes which incorporate the experiences of all genders and sexualities. By improving the education on this poignant issue and actively tackling areas of University which perpetuate elements of ‘Rape Culture’, we can create a safe and inclusive campus.
