Ever since it was announced that New Order’s Peter Hook will be opening a club at Factory Records former offices later this month, and since hearing the acid-house tinged records that Delphic have been producing, music journos have been riling themselves up with the thought of Manchester having a Hacienda-style renaissance.

Emerging on the scene earlier last year on release of debut single ‘Counterpoint’, Delphic are supposedly the ‘ones-to-watch’ in 2010, and this was evidenced in a packed out Leadmill on Saturday with punters turning up to see if they could live up to all the hype.

Squeezing onto the smaller stage in Leadmill, amid flashing light beams, Delphic open up on ‘Clarion Call’, taken from their debut Acolyte. Their music evokes comparison to the likes of New Order, whilst other tracks such as ‘Doubt’, with its layered vocals, could be compared to what the Klaxons tried to achieve with their first release.

The trio proceed to play in one continual loop of crashing synths and electronic waves, which pulsate the room and have the crowd (that appears to be made up mainly of balding old school dance-heads) bopping along too.

The pure energy that goes into their live show is a treat to watch, and Delphic give off a crisp and well thought out performance. Well, it is not for no reason they hired expat Berliner Ewan Pearson to produce their debut album – you can tell that every note and key has been carefully polished and constructed.

Pouring out the last of their restless energy into finishing song ‘Counterpoint’, the momentum continues as lead singer James Cook gives an intense performance, whilst guitarist Matt Cocksedge thrashes to the music.

Ok, it has all been done before, as some reviews of Acolyte have pointed out, but the emergence of Delphic does reflect exciting things to come. All in all tonight’s performance shows no hesitation that Delphic have put Manchester safely back on the map, and suggest that 2010 may see the resurgence of an indie-rave revival.
