Introducing Sheffield – Hey Sholay

Hey Sholay

They might be a little under the radar now, but it’s not going to stay that way for long. Hey Sholay have taken their unique brand of rock with a slice of psychedelia across the world after winning a competition in NME to play Exit Festival in Serbia (which also saw Arcade Fire and Pulp grace the stages) and are fast becoming a band to watch out for.

Alongside their brilliant set on the New Music Stage at Tramlines Festival over the summer, Hey Sholay have been making waves locally by proving to be worthy supports to Clap Your Hands Say Yeah at Queens Social Club. This has led to them heading off on tour with Crystal Antlers this month where their name will spread like wildfire.

Their biography, floating around the internet, is certainly more interesting than other bands’ information. They claim:

‘Hey Sholay are a set of individuals who share a unique history (of approx 1 year). All brought up in the Warm tropical climates (typical humidity is between 77 and 88% at a temp. of no higher than 34’C) of the South Eastern Asian Rainforests, they were raised by rival families of bush babies.’

What with them being a local band, we’re not sure how true this may be, but we like the imagination that went behind it; the same imagination that inspires their brilliant lyrics and sound.

After debut single ‘Dreamboat’ we’re looking forward to their EP, coming out at the end of the year.
