Naughty Dog unveil ‘The Last of Us’

Naughty Dog, creators of the Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Uncharted franchises revealed it’s latest PS3 exclusive titled ‘The Last of Us’.

The trailer, shown at the 2011 Spike VGA Awards depicts a teenage girl and an older, bearded man struggling to defend themselves against a host of infected zombie-like creatures in a dystopian city.
Dialogue from the trailer indicates that the virus has been around for some time and that it’s overtaken the entire city. The relationship between the man and the girl should excite gamers who’re used to Naughty Dog’s exemplary voice acting and character work from the Uncharted series.

The reveal was teased on the games website with a short piece of footage taken from a BBC nature documentary showing an ant infected by something known as ‘cordyceps’. The diseases causes the ants to climb up to a high vantage point before they die and the fungus grows out of their body.

One of the infected in the trailer showed similar yellow growths protruding from it’s head, indicating the virus present in the game is similar or identical to the cordycep virus that infects hundreds of plants and insects.
