Being Erica: E4’s Latest Show
The storyline of the programme follows Erica Strange (Erin Karpluk) who after being top in her class, popular and graduating with a good degree, finds herself stuck in a mundane life and enduring a string of bad dates. She then crosses paths with a therapist, Dr. Tom (Michael Riley), who enables her to travel through time and change the mistakes of her past.
I watched the pilot episode out of curiosity and a lack of things to do. I was not really expecting much and in truth there are a lot of things wrong with this programme. The idea of changing the past in reality means that there are plot discrepancies flying about all over the place: changes which she makes in time travel do not always seem to translate accurately when she comes back to the present for example.
However the actual idea of time travel is not a main focus and once you decide to ignore all the problems associated with the idea of time travel the programme is actually an entertaining watch. Definitely the best of the pick at 10pm on a Monday at the very least. It makes me think of a good chick flick, you may be able to guess the main details of what is going to inevitably happen (or who she is going to end up with) after a short space of time, but you feel the need to keep watching it anyway.
Being Erica is shown on E4 on Mondays at 10 pm and you can watch a trailer of the programme here.
