Glee

Glee, the new programme on E4, is one of the most talked about programmes of the moment. It continually appears on Twitter’s top trends. If you’re a High School Musical fan then this is definitely the show for you with a song breaking out every five minutes. But even if, like me, you’re not a massive High School Musical fan I would still give it a try. It has a lot more originality and plot behind the singing.

Glee is set within William McKinley High School in Ohio where ‘Glee’ is the school’s show choir. Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison), the school’s Spanish teacher takes over the Glee club in the pilot episode in the hopes of regaining its former glory. Will is married but the school’s guidance counsellor Emma Pillsbury (Jayma Mays) also has feelings for him and the jury’s out on who is the more psychotic of the two. The two main members of the Glee club are Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) and Finn Hudson (Cory Monteith), who risks his popularity gained by being the star of the football team to join the club.

If slightly unrealistic it is certainly still enjoyable, especially if you like the music. The songs are a mixture of popular and show music and the Glee soundtrack is already very popular. I was sold as soon as Journey appeared in the first episode.

The programme appears on E4 on Mondays at 9pm and is repeated on Thursday nights. You can watch all previous episodes on 4od here.
