The Restaurant: Series 3

The Restaurant: Series 3

‘The Restaurant’, now into its third series, is like ‘The Apprentice’ meets ‘Masterchef’. Famous Chef Raymond Blanc puts 9 couples through their paces for the chance of going into business with him and opening their own restaurant. I have been a religious viewer of the previous two series and am looking forward to this one.

The first episode, which was shown last week, was ‘The Pitch’ and involved 11 couples having to produce their signature dish and saw two couples being sent home. Watching this and considering previous years contestants I am not sure this year’s set of contestants are up to scratch but its early days yet. The first couple to be sent home were mother and daughter couple Natalie and Sandy who decided rather than use a can opener they would open their tin of coconut milk by bashing a large knife with a rolling pin. The second to be sent home did not have any idea of what they wanted their restaurant to be like.

From next week the remaining couples will be given their restaurants and each week will have to perform a task to stay in the competition. During these tasks judges Sarah Willingham and David Moore will be Blanc’s eyes. As Sarah Willingham is possibly the rudest woman alive this can prove quite entertaining.

I have two favourite couples so far: Barney and Badger and Daisy and Nadine. Daisy and Nadine want to bring Nigerian food onto the map while Barney and Badger are former military men from Essex and Kent. Barney is an army chef used to cooking for 400 soldiers on a budget of £1.97 per person each day.

The Restaurant is shown on BBC2 on Thursdays at 8pm. If you want to watch last week’s episode you can do so here.
