Calling all students: go to Yo!

Yo! Sushi is possibly the most popular sushi bar chain in the UK to date.

With many branches dotted about the big cities in the UK, Sheffield now has its own little conveyer belt of mini Japanese-inspired delights at Meadowhall.

Being familiar with Yo already, my housemate and I tried to think of ways we could convince you that whatever your prejudice, you should definitely consider trying this sushi bar if you haven’t already.

If you’re worried how it works, I promise you, it’s very simple.

When you’ve been seated by the conveyer belt you can instantly help yourself to whatever dishes you like.

The accompanying menu offers hot dishes which need to be ordered separately; just press the orange button and someone will come over to take your order.

All the plates have specific colours and prices, ranging from £1.70-£5.00.

At the end of your meal, you call over a member of staff who counts up your plates and bob’s your uncle, you’ve had your first sushi experience, Yo-style.

The constant conveyer belt of food is regularly topped up and refreshed throughout the time you’re there.

With everything from fish to chicken, hot or cold, there really is something for everyone.

If you have a food conscience, the fish is bluefin tuna friendly and there is also a range of plates suitable for vegetarians.

Being open aired within the centre, the atmosphere is very light-hearted and pleasant, especially enhanced by the staff, forever ready to make sure you’re ok and helping to educate the Yo-Virgins in understanding the modern way in which their restaurants are run.

It may be a strange experience at first – without your own table and waiter to bring over your food, but there really is no excuse to not try this unique way of eating.

As for personal recommendations, I can’t really specify as I found everything very tasty.

However what I will say is try something new.

Having so many different types of food in smaller portions mean you can try something and if you don’t like it, it’s no big loss.

If you are worried about your choice, ask the members of staff who are more than happy to recommend their personal favourites.

Being more specific, the Pumpkin and Prawn Korroke were the particular highlights of our meal, both via recommendation by the staff.

And finishing up with a mango panacotta left us with a sweet taste in our mouths and smiles on our faces.

If you’re going, take your student card; 25% student discount from 3 till 6 on Monday to Friday.

There is also the Blue Monday offer which means any plate from the belt is £2.20, but the offer is for a limited time.

You’d be looking at about £15-£20 per head on average if you want to fill yourself with food, but for my money, it’s worth it.

Whether it’s for a first date or fun with friends, Yo! Sushi is an exciting option that shouldn’t be overlooked!
