Side-swept hair.

Side swept hairstyles have been spotted on Cheryl Cole, the red carpet and the runway recently.

At first I was dubious; the look reminding me of many of the “chavvy” looks that I worked in my early teens. Done well though, they are an easy and quirky alternative to the up or down hair dilemma.

I am definitely siding with the asymmetrical crowd. Side swept hair has become a staple look for my nights out as its super easy and super flattering.

Heavy side partings and side swept fringes are a prerequisite for the look and keeping braids and ponytails low avoids the Pollard edge.

Longer hairstyles can be worn down over one shoulder with some bobby pins at the back of the head to keep it in place or in a long, side swept braid with hair falling loose at the front.

Shorter hairstyles look cute in a low side ponytail. Wrap a piece of hair around the bobble to keep it smart.
