With the exam period looming and thoughts of revision filling our head, there’s one thing keeping us going, and that’s the sight of a nice, long summer holiday on the horizon.
But what should we do with our three month summer?
There are always long lie-ins to make the most of and lounging around on the sofa; catching up with the likes of Jeremy Kyle and the Loose Women.
But three months of daytime television could get a bit boring – although I’m pretty sure I could do it.
But, as I keep being reminded, I will soon be out in the ‘real world’ and long summers will be a thing of the past.
So why not make the most of it while we can – to boost our CVs, or just to have an amazing time.
Travelling seems to be top of the list for most students I have talked to.
Whether it’s backpacking across the far flung corners of the world, inter-railing across Europe or just having a relaxing holiday with friends; why not – if your student loan permits it.
If you have got an idea about where you want to go, or even if you don’t, you could pop into somewhere like STA travel (there’s one on Division Street) and begin planning your holiday of a lifetime.
Or you could always go to one of the many festivals across the UK. Camping, music, and friends – surely you’re guaranteed a good time.
Have a look at www.efestivals.co.uk to see what festivals are going on this summer.
Sadly, all the amazing things we could be doing come with a price tag. You could spend the summer, or at least some of it, earning the money to pay for them.
As I mentioned before, the thought of employment after university is scary.
The summer is a great time to do a bit of work experience – with the hope that it may help get a job after university, or just give you a better idea of what to do.
So now might be the time to dig out those CVs and get writing those cover letters, and pleading with employers to take us on for a work placement.
Why not make the most of being a student, and the amount of time we get off.
The world is our oyster, as they say.
