Students can now purchase Will Yaki Teriyaki Noodles from the Union’s New Leaf salad bar.
The new range was launched by former University of Sheffield students Xinxin Cao and William Christophers, who established Will Yaki in 2006 after winning the White Rose Business Plan.
Co-founder Xinxin Cao said, “It has always been my ambition to have a business in the Student Union. It’s great to be working with New Leaf, as they have an image of good, healthy food.”
First year English and French student, Hannah Brook, was at the launch to sample the new cuisine.
She said: “I’m really excited to try the Teriyaki noodles. They seem like a good, alternative option for food from the Union and great value for money.”
Will Yaki began as a stall set up on the Concourse outside the Student Union, whilst Cao and Christophers were still studying at the University.
The venture grew, leading to its products being sold in many mobile outlets, as well as delis in the South Yorkshire area.
Cao added: “The idea for Will Yaki came when I saw there was a gap in the market for tasty, healthy Japanese fast food. It’s very common in Japan, but not in the UK, and I thought we could fill that gap.”
Both Cao and Christophers are optimistic for the future of their business and its links with the Union, saying that they have already had positive feedback from students.
