Our reporter has been down to the scene at Ellin Street, here is what he saw: “Four fire engines were at the scene when I arrived. Fire officers seemed to be inspecting the small power station next to Staples.
“Staples was still open although all the tills could not take card payments and the lights were off. Most shops on The Moor were closed with hand made signs describing why they were shut.”

The fire at the substation at Ellin Street, near Staples, has now been controlled, with four firecrews attending the fire.
There is a possibility of damage to to Northern Powergrid’s equipment, affecting many businesses across the city.

News of a fire on Ellin Street are so far unconfirmed to be related to the widespread power cuts, Northern Powergrid have said: “We’re on site with the local fire service, a possibility of fire damage to our equipment but we can’t confirm for sure yet.”

Northern Powergrid reporting that “there are faults on the high voltage network in areas of Sheffield meaning that lots of customers are affected at once. “

Northern Powergrid have said that S1, S2, S7, S10 and S11 are currently experiencing the power cut- this means Sheffield city centre is currently down.

    Hello, all of eccy road is on a powercut at the minute, think just M&S is open.
    Does anyone know how the power is on woodseats as i need the Tesco desperately????
