Hallam student O'Dwyer allegedly made £15,000 a month in advertising revenue from the site
A Sheffield student can be extradited to the US to face copyright infringement charges, a judge has ruled.
Richard O’Dwyer, 23, ran the site TV Shack, which US authorities say linked to copyrighted films and TV shows online.
The Sheffield Hallam student lost his case at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today but looks set to appeal to the High Court over the decision.
O’Dwyer’s lawyer, Ben Cooper, has argued that TV Shack merely linked to copyrighted material in the same way as sites such as Google and Yahoo.
He also believes that O’Dwyer is being treated as a test case by US authorities.
O’Dwyer could face up to five years in prison if convicted.
