Sheffield University Rowing Club picked up two wins at the York Small Boats Head on November 20. A range of events for both the senior women and men’s team were entered at York and this more than paid off.
Despite intense fog blanketing the river for the duration of the day, the squads kept their spirits up and stayed optimistic about racing. The morning division saw the men’s first coxed four and intermediate pair, as well as the senior women’s intermediate quad
Next was the afternoon divisions, where the senior men’s intermediate double, senior pair, coxless four and men’s second coxed four, as well as the senior women’s coxed four. A solid race from all, the afternoon division saw a valiant effort from the Sheffield men and women’s crews.
It was a day which paid off as the men’s intermediate pair of Christian Crawford and Will Briggs and intermediate doubles Michael Nagi and Ash Medhurst won their categories, while the men’s first coxed four placed second, and senior women’s quad placed fourth, in their respective categories.
The event was a great chance for local boat clubs and universities to display their talent. York is always a head race which the club looks forward to attending each year due to the excellent standard of competition.
