The University of Sheffield Table Tennis Men’s 1’s won by a landslide 17-0 against Hallam, winning every game at the English Institute for Sport on Monday afternoon. The varsity point was expected by Uni considering their history of winning the BUCS Table Tennis 2015-2016 trophy and 1st place in the BUCS Table Tennis 2015-2016 Northern 1A League.
Hallam put the heat on Uni in the early sets of their games but their confidence was restored when the professionalism of Uni kicked in during the second or third set. This was not always the case though with two matches being won by Uni 11-0 including first year, Tim Denby.
Justin Tetlow, Club Captain of University of Sheffield Table Tennis said: “Easy 3 points. Thoroughly professional from the boys. Great send off for Elliot and James playing their final game for university to whom we dedicate this Varsity triumph.”
Hallam supporters came out in full force to support the players but the class and winning experience of University of Sheffield shone through during the matches The atmosphere in the hall was tense with sudden outbursts of cheers sets.
Uni sealed the varsity point early in the afternoon by winning the first 9 games. The rest was merely a formality.
