Wednesday afternoon for the University of Sheffield Men’s Football 3s turned out dismal, bleak and wet; the weather wasn’t great either.
Despite the game eventually going Hallam’s way with a 4-2 a final score UoS got off to a dream start with by scoring a mere three minutes after kick off due to an error by the Hallam goalie. In the first ten minutes Uni of were dominant and had multiple chances on goal but in the 11th minute Sheffield Hallam brought things level with an equaliser from Jolli Heer.
Shortly after Hallam made it 2-1 following a good effort from Michael Gracia, with the period of play leading up to half time being dominated by SH with Uni of seemingly unable to hold on to the ball.
The University of Sheffield 3s will have gone into the second half hoping to turn the score on its head but these ambitions were shattered following Sheffield Hallam’s very rapid second half goal that brought the score to 3-1.
Uni of seemed somewhat listless for early parts of the second half until they scored a good headed goal that seemed to rouse their spirits and re-energise the team as they started playing better than Hallam.
Unfortunately this revival was not to last as with around 15 minutes to go the referee awarded Sheffield Hallam a penalty which Michael Gracia slotted into the bottom right corner to give himself a brace and seal Uni of’s fate.
The University of Sheffield 3s certainly played better in the second half but it wasn’t enough to stop a repeat of the 2-1 score of the first half which entailed Sheffield Hallam walking away with a precious point for the Varsity total.
