Dodgeball – No Varsity Point
University of Sheffield 40-0 Sheffield Hallam University
Sunday’s sun brought success to Goodwin as Uni dominated Hallam in Dodgeball, not dropping a single round.
Despite only being two years old, Uni Dodgeball already has had some success and features strong players including Wales national player Lewis Diggins. Whilst their M1s are performing well for a new team in the Northern National Championships.
The event started well for Uni as they the first two rounds without losing a single member of their team, and eliminated some of Hallam’s strongest players at the start of the round.
Hallam did manage to stabilise a bit in the next rounds forcing some of them to the three-minute time limit, before conceding the round due to having less active players left.
This trend continued throughout the first quarter and ran into the second quarter as teams switched sides.
The highlight of the match came in the 13th round with an amazing catch from Uni’s Mark Fletcher, grabbing the ball inches from the floor to eliminate the Hallam player helping to clinch the round. Fletcher continued to make great catches throughout the rest of the game.
Overall the game was a rout for Uni who dominated, improving on last year’s close score of 23-17 with an incredible 40-0 win, retaining the event title.
Club Captain and founder Jake Atkinson said: “It was a really good game, good drop catches and really fast paced counters. We’ve improved a lot from last year.”
