All fixtures in this year’s Sheffield Varsity have been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, it has been announced.
The annual sporting event between the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University was due to kick off in earnest next week, although one early event had already taken place.
The decision was announced via a joint statement between both universities’ Sports Officers, Britt Bowles and Ellis Clark, who said it was a “difficult decision”, but that protecting the welfare of staff and students was the priority.
One point had already been awarded in Varsity 2020, with the University of Sheffield taking the point in equestrian on Friday 13 March.
