The Uni of Sheffield Hockey Women’s 1s recorded a 4-0 win against Liverpool John Moores University in a fierce match at Goodwin.
The first half of the match started pretty slow with both teams still figuring out their gameplay. The attacks came and went quickly with both teams making various mistakes and the match remained stagnant for a period of time.
Right before the whistle blew for the break, Sheffield University found a wide space and immediately executed a long pass that allowed that to break the deadlock after a slow first half.
Despite the extremely cold weather over at Goodwin, the girls put up a fantastic second-half and instantly dominated the whole game.
The slow first half flipped into an intense match with both teams hungry for goals.
Despite taking the lead, Sheffield were still extremely focused with great effort in defending and attacking.
The Sheffield defense was tested when Liverpool John Moores had a one-on-one face off with the Sheffield University keeper. The ball was immediately blocked after a quick defense from the defender.
The Black and Golds finally found their 2nd and 3rd goal halfway throughout the second half of the match. Sheffield University squeezed another goal a few minutes before the final whistle blew.
With great determination and perseverance, the University of Sheffield took the win.
Fiona Small said: “We started off quite slow though because it’s a new formation and we had not played this formation before, so everyone was kind off getting used to it. We got into it and absolutely smashed it coming out the second half.
“We deserved to win.”
