Sheffield United boss, Chris Wilder, praised David McGoldrick after the striker’s first-half header sent the Blades to second in the Championship with a 1-0 win over QPR.
McGoldrick’s 10th goal of the season put United within four points of leaders Leeds, and the Blades chief said he was delighted with his front man’s performance.
“He’s been an important player for us,” he said.
“He slots into the way we play and I imagine if you ask him he’s really enjoying his football.
“He’s been outstanding.”
Wilder signed McGoldrick, whose family live in Nottingham, on a free transfer in the summer. With the striker netting his fourth goal in four games and having now reached double figures for the campaign, it looks to have been a shrewd piece of business.
“Right time, right home for him,” added Wilder.
“He’s a proper down to earth and funny guy.”
The Blades boss insists that his side still have room for improvement after their fourth straight league win but was quick to point out that United are enjoying what is providing to be an outstanding season so far.
He said: “We are looking to improve and get better.
“We don’t want to take a step back and we want to enjoy the situation and winning games in this division.”
Sheffield United travel to Swansea City next Saturday (17:30pm KO).
